WHAKAPAPA New Zealand Design Recycled Mat, Black & White
The Whakapapa New Zealand design recycled mat in bold black and white evokes images of ancestral connectedness. Use this eye-catching mat design as a talking space, eating space or meeting space in your home, classroom or cultural centre.
Michelle Walters is the New Zealand contemporary artist who created Whakapapa for Recycled Mats. In Maori tradition, your whakapapa is at the core of who you are and how you make sense of your place in the world. It’s the genealogy joining your iwi, your hapu and your tribe – all interconnected divisions of a Maori community. We may be connected to our ancestors by blood ties or via social, economic or religious bonds. Understanding the influences our ancestry has on our lives helps us celebrate our culture and be appreciative of other cultural spaces.
Like all the lightweight, stylish Maori mats on offer at Recycled Mats, the Whakapapa mat is comfortable and easy to clean. Made from 95% recycled plastics, such as car tyres and PET bottles, you can fold it up for transportation and storage, and it wipes clean easily for indoor or outdoor use.
Whakapapa is a striking design, ideal for generating discussion in your early learning centre or classroom. Children can enjoy tracing the lines of the image and coming up with interpretations of this evocative symbolism. Buy one mat, or choose one of our affordable mat packages to bring diversity teaching into every room of your school or kindy.
For the home or any community space, Whakapapa is a celebration of family and ancestral connections. In the office, it’s a unique talking point design with an on-trend multicultural vibe.
Choose a Whakapapa New Zealand design recycled mat in vibrant black and white to celebrate culture every day while you work, rest and play.
