These individual Indigenous-design play mats are designed as learning tools for young children. They feature Australian animals from across the country. Children will enjoy identifying both familiar and new animals, naming them, and recognising the word formation.
The artist of the Australian animal mats is Susan Bett. Susan is a respected Teacher, Artist and Administrative Assistant, running workshops in dozens of private and public schools, and organisations ~ teaching Indigenous and non-Indigenous students about the diversity and values of her culture both past and present.
These small individual play mats help you to explore and teach children how Aboriginal people have a deep connection and respectful relationship with the land and gives you the opportunity to celebrate Aboriginal culture and it's people, one of the oldest living cultures in the world. They can also be used at a school assembly as carpet tiles for comfortable seating, for seating during lunch time or incursion opportunities, and as stepping stones between classrooms.
Library teachers can use these play mats to introduce Indigenous concepts in libraries and children's literacy zones or create a book nook or learning zone with these play mats as the centrepiece. Add a bundle of Indigenous cushions to provide extra comfort.
Printed using the latest high tech permanent printing methods, using 100% green energy ( solar ), mats have been treated with Stainguard for protection from spills. Life expectancy is approx 5 years, less for a commercial environment.
