These individual Indigenous-design play mats are designed as learning tools for young children.
They feature Aboriginal Dot Designs in multiple themes including ocean, land, and desert. Aboriginal symbols including kangaroos, dolphins, hunters, goannas, and meeting places are formed by the joining of intricate dot patterns which were used to pass on cultural stories and knowledge from one generation to another.
Each playmat showcases Aboriginal artwork to help children identify and understand cultural and community motifs still used to this day. The play mats can be used as a multi-sensory educational tool to teach children how Aboriginal symbols provide information whilst sharing a cultural experience.
These small individual play mats also help you to explore and teach children how Aboriginal people have a deep connection and respectful relationship with the land and give you the opportunity to celebrate Aboriginal culture and its people, one of the oldest living cultures in the world.
These individual mats can also be used at a school assembly as carpet tiles for comfortable seating, for seating during lunch time or incursion opportunities, and as stepping stones between classrooms. Library teachers can use these play mats to introduce Indigenous concepts in libraries and children's literacy zones or create a book nook or learning zone with these play mats as the centerpiece. Add one of our gorgeous bean bags or a bundle of Indigenous cushions to provide extra comfort.
The artists of these divine mats include Susan Bett, a respected teacher sharing culture with Indigenous and non-Indigenous students. Grant Aihang from the Ngarrindjeri clan has also contributed to the artwork featured on the mats.
The mats are printed using the latest high tech permanent printing methods, utilising 100% green energy (solar), the mats have been treated with Stainguard for protection from spills. Life expectancy is approx 5 years, less for a commercial environment.
