2.7 x 2.7m
Turtle Circle (or Waru Circle) is a Torres Strait Island design mat in rich blue and green. It’s ideal for the playroom, classroom or any room where you want to gather a group for reading or playtime, sharing food or sharing conversation.
Michael Gilsenan is an Australian Indigenous artist with connections to Stephen Island in the Torres Strait and the Yidinji people of Far North Queensland. For him, the turtle is an important symbol of life in that region. It has a practical use, as food, but also cultural and spiritual significance as a reminder of a balanced and respectful relationship between people and the ocean.
This intricate design is ideal as a teaching tool, helping students of all ages learn more about their own and other cultures while they read, eat or play on the rug. Perfect as school mats or caravan mats, these stunning Turtle Circle indoor/outdoor rugs with vibrant colours and distinctive cultural imagery will be a talking point in any room!
Turtle Circle is made from 95% recycled plastics making it easy to clean and light enough to carry or fold up for transport or storage. This innovative material is soft and comfortable for sitting and walking on; warm in winter but cool in summer.
Use these rugs as kindy mats to extend learning in areas such as culture, nature, family life or art. In the home or office, Turtle Circle is a great way to celebrate cultural diversity through art.
