CAMPFIRE Aboriginal Design Recycled Mat - Black/Brown/White
The Aboriginal Campfire and Roo Hunt design recycled plastic mats are in a terrific VALUE SET of 5. They are a popular classroom mat set for those looking for a cross-cultural, seamless approach to your room or centre. Cleverly created to express Australian Aboriginal symbolism, they are also perfect for organising students into a seated circle for storytime or games.
Aboriginal Mats with Meaning
The Campfire Aboriginal design mat comes from talented artist Angela Marr-Grogan's range. Angela has been painting for over 10 years and is a Birrbay woman with connections to the Dhanggatti and Warrimay people on NSW mid-north coast. This design symbolises the importance of the campfire as a meeting place, as well as a source of warmth and nourishment.
The Roo Hunt mat design is created by Wallamarra Elliot, a Wiradjuri Countryman, father and artist, Wallamarra who says that it reminds us of the importance of the cycle of life. The notion of harmony and balance is often forgotten in contemporary, mass production of food. Traditional hunting worked with the seasons and considered the needs of "Mother Nature".
This special deal is perfect for schools, libraries, sports groups or community centres who need plenty of space for sitting inside or outside.

The concept behind the Campfire design is a gathering of tribes, coming together around a central point to reconnect and share dreaming stories. Marr-Grogan’s beautiful imagery makes this design especially appealing as a childcare mat, classroom story space or family camping mat. Choose this sturdy, comfortable mat for any place, for your own ‘tribe’ to come together and connect.
Available in various colour combinations which represent a connection to country, Marr-Grogan’s design reminds us of the joy and mutual understanding to be found in listening to each other’s stories. This economical set of 5 includes a mixed combination of vibrant, reversible colours, a mix of the Campfire design and Roo Hunt designs.
"As an Aboriginal artist, I am inspired and driven by the depth of Aboriginal culture and my place within it,” Marr-Grogan has said. With this in mind, Recycled Mats works in consultation with communities to create authentic, ethically produced Indigenous design mats that celebrate cultural diversity. Feel confident as a cultural educator by using school mats or picnic mats that truly represent their communities of origin.
Caring for your mat is easy too, as these impressive floor coverings are created from recycled, UV-treated plastics. Spills wipe off with ease, whilst heavier soiling can be hosed off or brushed with a soft broom. Fold up your mat for storage or transportation as you move from home to the beach or from story time to lunchtime.
This range of cross-cultural designed mats is an ideal way to celebrate culture in day to day life.

These mats are reversible. Photos show both sides of the same mat. Mat colours may differ slightly from the images shown due to the different inks used in individual print runs.
All our floor mats have been made to the best attainable standards from UV treated recycled polypropylene. Follow our guide to mat maintenance for cleaning and storage instructions. Our floor mats and playmats are suitable for indoor and outdoor use, but extensive exposure to sun or rain will lead to fading and deterioration over time.
