Create a Defined Outdoor Space Our large recycled plastic mats help create a clean, level space outside your van or motorhome. Ideal for relaxing, entertaining, or simply keeping dirt outside where it belongs. 2. Keep Things Dry & Organised No more soggy towels or gear. Use your mat as a breathable platform for drying clothes, swimmers, or shoes—airflow underneath helps speed up drying naturally. 3. Caravan Step Station Place a mat at your van’s entrance for stable footing and to catch dust and grass before it makes its way inside. Our mats are anti-slip and gentle under bare feet. 4. Set Up a Breakfast Nook Use a medium-sized mat under your outdoor table and chairs for a charming breakfast area. It's more hygienic than the ground and adds instant homely appeal. 5. Morning Stretch or Tai Chi Spot Our mats make an ideal surface for low-impact movement. Start your day with a stretch or gentle yoga—joint-friendly, easy-clean and comfortable underfoot. 6. Roll-Out a Guest Zone Expecting fellow travellers for happy hour or a cuppa? Roll out an extra mat for additional seating space. It’s welcoming, practical, and easy to pack away. 7. Pet Rest Area Travelling with a furry friend? Our mats are pet-friendly—cool, comfortable, and washable. They offer a designated spot for pets to rest after a day of exploring. 8. Under-Awning Mat Magic Our 7-metre annex mats are perfect for full-length coverage under your awning—creating a proper “patio” that feels just like home, with added stability and style. 9. Dust-Free Shoe Drop Zone Set up a corner of your mat as a dedicated shoe zone to avoid tracking in red dirt or coastal sand. It’s one simple habit that keeps your interior looking fresh. 10. Easy Meal Prep Area Create a clean zone to prep meals, with your picnic table and BBQ gear on a mat that’s simple to wipe clean. Less mess, more meals made with love. 11. A Mobile Craft or Hobby Space Love painting, knitting, or puzzles? Our mats provide a great hobby zone—flat, easy to clean, and protected from the elements. 12. Keep Furniture Stable On uneven terrain? Our mats help stabilise camp chairs and tables, so you can enjoy your cuppa or wine without the wobbles. 13. Safe Campfire Perimeter Place your mat and chairs a safe distance from the campfire. Not only does this help protect the mat from sparks, it keeps you and others (especially grandkids visiting!) safely away from flames. 14. Barrier Between You & the Bugs Set your mat down at mealtime or rest time—it helps create a zone that’s less attractive to ants and crawling critters, especially when used with citronella or natural repellents. 15. Quick Pack-Up & Clean-Up Our mats are made for the Aussie outdoors. They’re lightweight, fold down small, and hose off in seconds—perfect for effortless travel and clean exits. A Day with Dignitaries: Celebrating Environmental Sustainability

A Day with Dignitaries: Celebrating Environmental Sustainability

A day etched in my memory, marking a significant stride in our journey towards a greener future. I, JJ Stranan, through our collaboration with Plastic Oceans Australasia, had the distinct honour of being invited by Ricki Hersburgh to a special event. It wasn't just any gathering but an occasion graced by the Governor General of Australia, David Hurley, and his wife, Linda Hurley. The purpose? To acknowledge the pivotal contributions made in the recycling sector and to launch the impactful 'Picnics Unwrapped' campaign by Plastic Oceans Australasia.     Intimate Encounters and Inspirational Speeches The event unfolded in an enchanting manner, starting with an intimate group interaction with the Governor General and his wife. Their warmth and approachability made the conversation both enlightening and personal. Following this, we transitioned to the formal part of the event, marked by speeches that not only inspired but also echoed our collective commitment to environmental stewardship.     The Charm of a Shared Picnic In the true spirit of community and unity, the event featured a shared picnic, albeit indoors due to the Canberra weather that gave us its own challenge to deal with! This wasn't just a meal; it was a symbol of togetherness and shared responsibility towards our planet. The relaxed atmosphere allowed for meaningful exchanges and reflections on our roles in protecting and nurturing our environment. "You, Me & the Sea" – A Symbol of Hope A highlight of the day was witnessing the engagement of the young minds from Canberra State High. These impressive students took the opportunity to relax on our charity mat, aptly named "You, Me & the Sea." This mat, a product of us here at Recycled Mats, isn't just a comfort underfoot but a beacon of hope, with 10% of its sales donated to Plastic Oceans Australasia. This initiative supports their incredible community work, reinforcing the message that every small contribution counts towards a larger impact. Check out this stunning mat "You, Me and the Sea" recycled mat here and contribute to the great work that Ricki and her team does. Reflections and Looking Forward As I reflect on the day's events, I am filled with a sense of pride and optimism. Being part of an event that not only recognizes efforts in recycling but also actively promotes environmental awareness is truly humbling. The 'Picnics Unwrapped' campaign is more than just an initiative; it's a call to action for each one of us to play our part in preserving the beauty and integrity of our planet. As we continue our journey, the memories of this day will serve as a reminder of the power of collaboration, the importance of community involvement, and the ever-present need for environmental advocacy. Let us all be inspired by these moments to create a sustainable and thriving world for future generations.

Promoting Cultural Inclusion

Promoting Cultural Inclusion: The Significance of Aboriginal Artwork in Learning Spaces In recent years, there has been a growing recognition of the importance of cultural inclusion within educational spaces. One powerful way to foster an inclusive environment is through the incorporation of Aboriginal artwork. By showcasing and celebrating Indigenous cultures, we not only provide a platform for diverse perspectives but also promote understanding, respect, and appreciation for Aboriginal heritage. In this blog, we will explore the significance of using authentic Aboriginal artwork in learning spaces and how it contributes to the promotion of cultural inclusion.   Preserving and Celebrating Indigenous Heritage Aboriginal artwork carries profound cultural significance and serves as a medium for storytelling, identity, and spiritual expression. By featuring these artworks within educational environments, we acknowledge and honor the rich history and cultural traditions of Australia's First Nations peoples. Students, teachers, and visitors alike are afforded the opportunity to learn about Indigenous heritage through vibrant and visually engaging displays.   Promoting Cultural Understanding The presence of Aboriginal artwork in learning spaces encourages cultural understanding and empathy among students. It helps to bridge the gap between Indigenous and non-Indigenous communities by fostering a sense of connection and appreciation. By exposing students to authentic Indigenous art forms, they gain insight into the unique perspectives, beliefs, and experiences of Aboriginal people. This exposure promotes tolerance and acceptance, nurturing an inclusive mindset that extends beyond the classroom.   Engaging Learning Experiences Art has long been recognized as a powerful tool for engagement and learning. Aboriginal art, with its rich symbolism and narrative, offers a unique platform for educational exploration. By integrating Indigenous artwork into curricula, teachers can create interdisciplinary  learning experiences that encompass history, geography, social studies, and even science. Students can delve into the stories behind the art, the significance of different symbols, and the connection between art and culture. This approach fosters critical thinking, creativity, and cross-cultural understanding.   Cultivating Indigenous Pride and Identity For Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students, the presence of their culture within educational spaces can be transformative. Authentic Aboriginal artwork can instill a sense of pride, belonging, and cultural identity among Indigenous students. It sends a powerful message that their heritage is valued and recognized, which can have a significant impact on their self-esteem and educational achievements. Furthermore, non-Indigenous students benefit from exposure to diverse cultures, cultivating an inclusive environment where everyone's identity is celebrated.   Supporting Local Indigenous Artists and Communities Incorporating authentic Aboriginal artwork in learning spaces also provides an opportunity to support local Indigenous artists and communities. By purchasing artworks directly from Indigenous artists or collaborating with local art centers, educational institutions can contribute to economic empowerment and the sustainability of Aboriginal art practices. This engagement establishes meaningful connections between schools, artists, and communities, fostering ongoing relationships built on respect and appreciation. Find out more about the Indigenous artists that Recycled Mats is priviledged to work with since 2010.  The inclusion of authentic Aboriginal artwork in learning spaces is essential for promoting cultural inclusion and celebrating Indigenous heritage. What we RECYCLE

We are a DROP OFF POINT for having your non-standard items recycled! **This is ON HOLD for the moment whilst we move warehouses, thank you** Thanks so much for coming on the circular economy journey with us! We have an amazing group of like-minded people who are looking for solutions to recycle items that the standard council recycling centres won't accept. We collect these items, then pass them onto other small family businesses who repurpose them into usable products, some of which we then sell in our little showroom. We too are a small business trying to do our bit, so we're opening up our warehouse in Tweed Heads South, NSW (near the Gold Coast & QLD border) to be a drop-off point for certain items. We hope to continue to add more and more items to this list, so check back and see what new connections we've created every few months.   Milk Bottle Tops & Soy Sauce Fish Pods Watch out Tweed, we are on a mission to find a new home for your clean and label-free bottle tops! There are so many amazing colours to make new products from, with bottle tops in circulation in hues of blue, red, yellow, white and even gold! Simply bring your clean and colour-sorted bottle tops to Unit 2, 42 Machinery Drive, Tweed Heads South, NSW 2486 between the hours of 9-5 Monday - Friday, and we will granulate them and remake them into something new! Keep an eye on our website and shopfront to see what we make, but the first new product in the making is surfboard fins. We're then hoping to progress to flower pots, a building block game with a difference, and then hopefully veggie garden bed frames, and maybe even bollards, tables and who knows what else... The world is our oyster! But first, we need your help by collecting, cleaning & drying your lids! You could also get your school or workplace involved too. Have them sent in or dropped off to us, then BOOM! we will do the rest.     Aussie Bread Tags for Wheelchairs Update Aug 2022: We no longer accept the bread tags but should you have a stash, please send them to Oz Bread Tags where they will be sorted then onsold to Brad & Narelle from Transmutation down in Robe, SA. Brad uses them to make breadboards, pot plant holders and other cool stuff to sell. The money raised from the sale of the tags to Brad pays for wheelchairs to be supplied to kids in need in South Africa who would otherwise not get the support. There are also other donation points listed on the Oz Bread Tags site.    Pool Inflatables / Toys On behalf of PLOYS in Bargara, QLD we can now accept punctured/deflated pool inflatables and air mattresses which are then transformed into bags and purses. Please be aware that we CANNOT accept mouldy, perished or stained material, all items must be cleaned and deflated flat. If you are not in the Tweed area, then feel free to view other drop off points around Australia here    Recycled Outdoor Mats To learn more about recycling our outdoor recycled mats, to give them yet another life, then please read our Creating a Circular Economy blog post!   Our address for drop off is Unit 2 / 42 Machinery Drive, Tweed Heads South (Mon-Fri 9-5).   Please note - Items are NOT to be left OUTSIDE at any time and must be received in a CLEAN, DRY condition in order to be recycled. If people don't follow these guidelines, we will have no choice but to stop accepting items. Thank you.
