The Little Black Game Pack brings diverse teaching into the home or classroom via fun Indigenous symbols educational games
Designed by Australian Aboriginal artist De Greer Yindimincarlie, from the Wiradjuri Nation of central New South Wales, the Game Pack uses Indigenous art to demonstrate aspects of cultural life and beliefs.
Symbolism is integral to self-expression in Australian Indigenous storytelling through art. Symbols can be used to share creative stories, create rules or give directions. Helping children interpret the language of symbolic communication brings benefits for general cognitive development as well as cultural understanding.
The Little Black Game Pack can be used by children of all ages thanks to its versatile design. Every pack contains 36 cards (2 of each symbol and 4 spirit cards) along with instructions for 3 games called ‘Hunt’, ‘Gather’ and ‘Catch’. Children can enjoy learning these new games, which enhance memory development or simply use the cards for an old-fashioned game of Snap.
Every card displays and explains a bright, colourful symbol with a connection to Indigenous culture. Young children will admire the vibrant illustrations, whilst older children can extend their learning to look for other representations of symbols in Indigenous art or stories.
The cards are 9 x 5.5cm in size, printed on sturdy 310gsm card stock with a gloss coverage, making them robust and long-lasting, even with regular gameplay. Buy multiple packs to extend your play into longer games or games for a whole class group. Match the cards with one of our Aboriginal designed outdoor mats to create the ultimate players' circle at home or at school.
Diversity education is high on the agenda in today’s school and kindy classrooms, which is why 'The Little Black Game Pack' is one of our bestsellers!
