Ancestral Connectedness is the name and the concept behind this eye-catching mandala design mat designed by global artist Ifyrefini Duley
Drawing on her Malay, Balinese and Melanesian roots, she uses art to invite discussion about our place in the universe. This mat comes in vibrant orange and white and brings a spiritual, multicultural vibe to your home, office or classroom.
Like all the durable, comfortable floor coverings from Recycled Mats, the Ancestral Connectedness mat is hard-wearing and easy to clean. Made from recycled plastics, you can celebrate culture whilst doing the right thing for the planet.
Ifyrefini Duley is inspired by our planet, along with all of the unseen and unspoken dimensions of our human experience. Sacred geometry is key to the mandala concept, according to the artist, who reminds us we are all “cosmic diagrams of limitless potential”.
With this in mind, the Ancestral Connectedness mat is perfect to facilitate meditation in a tranquil space at home, or in the chaos of a classroom or community centre where a designated relaxation site is essential. According to the artist, the orange and white colour combination evokes creativity, enthusiasm, friendship, health, humour, ideas, motivation, joy, laughter, loyalty, security, success, wisdom and motivation.
Mandalas can be a tool for reconnecting with oneself and increasing self-awareness. They are often used in adult colouring books for mindfulness exercises. Why not extend this to the classroom, encouraging children to reflect on the shapes or trace the lines as they focus their energies? The round design is perfect for bringing people together to share food or conversation.
Ancestral Connectedness is also popular as a camping mat or beach mat. The circular design makes it ideal as a central meeting space or for sharing food, whilst the innovative plastic material means sand and dust brush away with ease. Pair your mat with a stylish portable picnic table to enjoy the outdoors.
We're now exploring how we can 're-recycle' your unwanted mats! Our exciting initiative for re-purposing and re-using them is a must-read.
