Heidi Overbye is a Preschool Teacher with fresh and engaging ideas for play.
She gathers and collates her ideas and experiments on her Instagram page, Learning Through Play. She showcases how she sets up her classroom space (the Chindi round rainbow rug is a new centrepiece), displays her 'invitations to play' as well as all her prop making, craft and painting activities, and play ideas.
More recently, Heidi has created a blog platform so she can share more of her ideas, pictures, explanations, links to products she loves (including this round rainbow rug) and how-to's for other preschool, kindergarten, prep and early years teachers, as well as homeschooling parents, family day care educators, and parents. Her new blog has wonderful bright photography, and her step-by-step instructions make it easy for us to follow along and join in.
Recently, Heidi shared a wonderful post about how she runs Group Time. Anyone who has ever worked with young children knows that Group Time is a central part of each day, and that a normal school day could not function without this central learning opportunity. But, all teachers and educators know it can be tough to gather children in a group while keeping them interested and engaged, and somewhat quiet, so learning can happen.
Heidi has found a circular rainbow rug is key to gathering children in a circle shape where they can all see, and equally participate, in the learning. Her story about how she uses her brand new 2m diameter Chindi rug, from Recycled Mats, is posted here. We'd love you to take a read of it, and let us know what you think.
Doesn't her Chindi rainbow rug look spectacular in her bright colourful classroom? It’s great to see these round rugs are a perfect match for the classroom space. We think they’d make fabulous nursery rugs too.
Recycled Mats also has a range of Chindi and Jute rugs, which are basically the same style as the one featured above, except the craftspeople alternate a rope of jute with a rope of Chindi. Take a look at the full range here. Check the close up picture to see if a rug is full Chindi, an alternate mix of Chindi/Jute, or Denim Chindi/jute.
