'Tracks' is an Australian designed recycled mat, in rich red and white, great for home, office or classroom use
It was designed by accomplished Australian Aboriginal artist De Greer Yindimincarlie, of the Wiradjuri Nation in central New South Wales, using many different Aboriginal symbols. It tells a story of traditional community life, including symbols for campsites, warriors, women and kangaroo tracks.
This intricate design is ideal as a teaching tool, helping students of all ages learn more about their own and other cultures while they read, eat or play on it, either indoors or outdoors. It’s a practical introduction to Indigenous symbolism in art and opens us up to the world of storytelling through pictures.
Like all our recycled mats, 'Tracks' is hard-wearing, naturally waterproof, and easy to clean – wipe away dirt and dust, or hose it off and dry it in the shade. Made from recycled plastics, 'Tracks' is light enough to carry or fold up for transport or storage, so you can move it from ‘home corner’ to ‘story corner’ or even outside for a picnic lunch.
This innovative material is soft and comfortable for sitting and walking on, but also extremely hardwearing. The striking colours ensure it’s an eye-catching addition to any library, community centre or office foyer and being reversible, it gives you two colour choices for display. Choose red one day, white the next or whatever suits your decor and mood. This is not only fun, but will also extend the life of your mat - it's like having 2 mats for the price of 1!
These mats make diversity education easy at home or at school. Consider using them in conjunction with other classroom resources such as The Little Black Game Pack or perhaps some Aboriginal Design individual seating mats (designed by the same artist). These will extend learning in areas such as culture, nature, family life or art. Some of our giant beanbags will up the comfort factor for a really cosy learning corner. What can I do with my mat when it reaches the end of its lifespan? Our exciting initiative for re-purposing and reusing them is a must-read.
