RECONCILIATION Aboriginal Design Recycled Mat, Black, Brown & White
Indigenous artist Angela Marr-Grogan is passionate about reconciliation and building strong relationships between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and the wider Australian community. Her unique image, titled Reconciliation, encourages people to gather on this Aboriginal design mat, large enough for groups of friends or family to enjoy a yarn.
"As an Aboriginal artist, I am inspired and driven by the depth of Aboriginal culture and my place within it,” says Marr-Grogan. With this in mind, she has used inner and outer concentric circles to represent community and organisations, whilst layered dot work symbolises people coming together to improve and build closer relationships. The result is a meaningful, contemporary design equally at home in a hotel foyer or school library. Like all the sturdy indoor and outdoor rugs on offer at Recycled Mats, Reconciliation is perfect as a camping floor, caravan mat or picnic mat - the choice is yours!
Angela draws inspiration from her identity as a Birpai/Biripi woman, with connections to the Dunghutti and Worimi people on the NSW mid north coast. Every Aboriginal mat commissioned by Recycled Mats is developed in close consultation with communities and features images that are culturally-appropriate for sharing.
Made from 95% recycled materials, the Reconciliation mat is not only great for celebrating cultural diversity – it’s also great for our earth. The innovative recycled plastics we use to create our mats are easy to clean, comfortable to sit on and UV treated to resist colour fading.
Bring a new cultural conversation into your classroom with a Reconciliation mat for group time. Why not pair it with educational games for diversity teaching? Reconciliation Aboriginal mats in black, brown and white with a large, bold and unique Indigenous motif, provide perfect indoor or outdoor ground cover for any occasion.

Highly recommended purchase - especially for familBy: Katrina on 24 January 2017What a wonderful product these mats are. I am a huge fan (bought this one for myself and then a green + white KORERO for my sister and her family shortly afterwards.) The size of this mat is perfect. Nice and big when laid out. Folds up neatly (we secure ours with a belt) and it still lightweight. We're a family of five and can all comfortably fit along with an esky, picnic bag, a couple of beach chairs etc. Just brilliant. I really love how these mats define a play space and how much we've used and further enjoyed the outdoors as a result of merely having this mat and being able to throw it down so many places e.g. park dates that last for hours because we can all flop on the mat under a tree, long beach sessions having the mat paired with a beach shelter up the back (a winning combo!), water play with the kids with the little pool setup on the mat, which makes it more comfortable and less dangerous. The mat didn't overheat in the sunshine (which I thought it may) and the environmental factor re: recycled materials is an absolute winner too. There are heaps of lovely shapes and designs to pick from as well. If you're thinking about ordering a mat, just go ahead and do it. You won't regret it!
