The 'Meeting Place' Aboriginal design recycled mat in rich red and grey is all about people coming together to talk
It can be used as a reading mat, play mat, camping mat or anywhere you want to gather friends and family to share games, food or conversation. It's one of our many popular group time mats for schools and kindies as the design lends itself to helping children choose a symbol to sit on, facing the centre. See how Recycled Mats' Indeigenous designs can meet the outcomes of the Educational Curriculum.
Made from recycled materials, 'Meeting Place' invites us to celebrate culture as well as conversation. The innovative recycled plastic used to create our entire range of outdoor mats is easy to clean, comfortable to sit on and UV treated to resist colour fading. It's lightweight and easy to fold so, once you've done, you can swiftly pack it away and store it inside the included carry bag.
Dean Jakamara Briscoe is a respected Australian Indigenous artist from the Anmatyerre, Central Desert, region. He’s a professional artist and owner of 'Anmatyerre Arts and Crafts'. Every Aboriginal mat commissioned by Recycled Mats is developed in close consultation with communities, and features images that are culturally appropriate for sharing. 'Meeting Place' can be used to invite discussion about many topics, including culture, family life and Indigenous symbols in art.
Conversations about ceremony, the landscape and home life traditionally took place around a campfire. In 'Meeting Place', Dean depicts people sitting around a central campfire, gathering to discuss the day’s business. Nowadays, a campfire might still serve as a warming, welcoming place to have a yarn, or we may substitute the fireside with the kitchen table or back deck. Your 'Meeting Place' reversible, recycled mat will be a handy addition to any of these spaces as a comfortable and long-lasting ground cover. For a truly memorable outdoor gathering, these mats are perfect for hosting a picnic. Why not pair it with some of our cushion covers.
We're now exploring how we can 're-recycle' your unwanted mats! Our exciting initiative for re-purposing and re-using them is a must-read.
