Witchetty Grubs – Australia's most famous bush tucker

Aboriginal artist Dean Jakamara Briscoe has created this iconic recycled plastic picnic mat and it's a stunner. Eye-catching and vibrant, you can't walk past this mat on a sandy beach without turning your head. This dot painting is a unique take on one of Australia's most famous bush tucker meals – the Witchetty Grub.

Witchetty Grubs are highly prized by Australian Aboriginals as a high-protein, high-energy food source that tastes something like scrambled eggs, but we prefer ours as an illustration on an Aboriginal mat!

Perfect for kindergartens, preschools and schools who want to immerse children in the stories and motifs of Indigenous Australia, and embed Indigenous Australian culture in their curriculums and programs. This 2.7m diameter mat is a combination of white and burgundy See how Recycled Mat's Indigenous designs can meet the outcomes of the Educational Curriculum.

Witchetty Grub is also a great mat to take with you on camping and caravanning trips to both the red desert centre and along our coastal lands. Wash off the red dust with a quick hose or use a broom to brush off the sand. It's the perfect mat for toddlers and young children who are prone to spills and messes too.

We're now exploring how we can 're-recycle' your unwanted mats! Our exciting initiative for re-purposing and re-using them is a must-read.
