'Journeys' is an Australian designed recycled plastic mat, in striking black and white – great for embedding Aboriginal culture at home, office, or in the classroom
In her design, Australian Aboriginal artist De Greer Yindimincarlie, of the Wiradjuri Nation in central New South Wales, depicts tribal journeys between campsites. It features symbols including men, women, campsites, and travel routes – with different communities separate but interconnected.
When used in an educational setting, children can be immersed in the symbology of Aboriginal language and storytelling, leading to empathy and understanding for cultures, lifestyles, and values different from their own. You can also use it for hopscotch games, transition times, picnics, group excursions, and on assembly days as comfortable seating. The 'Journeys' mat is reversible, which gives you two looks for the price of one, and also extends the life of your mat. Many educators choose 'Journeys' in conjunction with our individual seating mats, to facilitate additional learning opportunities, and really take their classroom or early learning centre to the next level! You could pair these with a selection of our Aboriginal cushion covers to inject some more colour, culture and comfort. Perfect for a chill out reading corner!
Like our entire range of recycled plastic outdoor mats, the 'Journeys' mat is made from recycled polypropylene plastic from items such as plastic bags, drink & medicine bottles. The mat is soft, yet sturdy, easy to carry from indoors to out, and super easy to clean. Just brush it, wipe it, or hose it down before you pack it away. Use indoors as an area mat to create learning spaces, or to style your home. Use outdoors on the deck, the patio, create an outdoor living nook, or cover unsightly concrete. Given its carefree maintenance, it's also a saviour whilst camping or at the beach. When you're done, simply fold & pop it in its included carry bag to store.
