Joongarrabah - The Place of the Pelican
Joongarrabah is a peak that overlooks the Tweed and Gold Coast Region. This iconic landmark is a vital part of the local cultural landscape.
For many generations, this special place has been significant in the teaching of “Garrima” respect.
Inspired by this motif, we'd like to introduce our newest custom cushion, designed by our beloved local artist, Christine Slabb of Bundjalung country. Brighten your home with this piece of Indigenous art today.
The cushion pattern is on one side only, with undulating bands of colour in the vibrant colour combination of navy blue and dark blue. These cushions are inspired by the deep dolphin-filled waters in this region and are an eye-catching addition to your summer decorating style.
Designed for the 2018 Commonwealth Games
In collaboration with Recycled Mats, this cushion design is also part of a specially commissioned series for the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games 2018 to celebrate the coming together of nations from across the globe to partake in sport, culture, art and entertainment.
The Gold Coast Commonwealth Games team has been instrumental in their work to highlight Indigenous culture across the entire competition, with Indigenous art and design featured on uniforms, on the Games Mascot Borobi, on the flags, posters and signage, and in home wares and interior design in the Commonwealth Games 2018 Festivals & Events spaces.
We were honoured to have played a part in this process, and are thrilled that our collaborations with local artists have been highlighted in such a public space.
Design by Aboriginal Artist Christine Slabb
Our eye-catching Garrima cushions featured in the "Jarjum" (meaning, "All our children") Learning & Play Space at the Commonwealth Games, and also in the VIP Green Room. The comfy cushions were a comfortable seating option for visitors looking for a rest. Designed by local Fingal artist Christine Slabb the design of the cushions was much loved, and we've had lots of enquiries about them from visitors and spectators.
We were super excited to be sent a picture of Ochre handprints of one of the Yugambeh dancers from Festival 2018 imprinted on a Garrima cushion. This mark, a culmination of 40,000 years of teaching and learning, was left behind as an extra surprise for visitors to enjoy.
Made in Australia from polyester with a nylon backing, our cushions are easy-care and uniquely beautiful for your indoor or outdoor settings. The cushion covers are machine washable, making them ideal for daily use, whether you are sitting by the pool or by the phone.
Pair this stunning cushion with a comfy indoor/outdoor rug and gather your family for a picnic by the beach. Pop it with a deluxe pod chair for the ultimate reading room or TV viewing spot. Or, make this just one cushion in your eclectic mix and match collection of stylish cushions with a cultural vibe.
